#SCBDRecipe: Homemade and Healthy Red pepper Hummus


I love hummus, but it can be expensive and there are always so many additives to them. So, I decided to create my own, I found a recipe and bought the ingredients and started to create it! Hummus is an easy recipe that anyone can do; the hardest part is finding the products at the store!


Hummus 1I bought a can of chickpeas, one medium bell pepper, Sesame Tahini, and one lime. At home, I already had olive oil, water, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. It is relatively cheap because I only spent $6.00 on the tahini (which is 15 oz and will last a while), $0.50 on a lime, $1.00 on a pepper, and the chick peas for $1.40. In total, I spent what seems like a lot, $8.90. But, the tahini will be reused for other recipes.

Hummus 2Before mixing everything together, I cut the red pepper into one inch cubes. Once all of the other ingredients were measured out and opened; I began adding ingredients into a blender, on low puree setting.

Hummus 3Hummus 4Hummus 5Hummus 6It will look pretty chunky when once all of the ingredients are in the blender, but everything will blend together.

After the pureeing of the ingredients is done to your liking; pour it into a dish. Garnish if you wish; I used the top of the pepper. Then, enjoy with fresh vegetables, pita chips, or crackers.
